The subtle variations in color and texture create an atmospheric, almost painterly quality, reminiscent of an abstract landscape. The glaze shifts between delicate sky-blue and muted earthy tones, revealing the natural beauty of the materials and the unpredictable character of the firing process.

The katakuchi features a gently flared rim and hand-formed spout, while the accompanying guinomi echoes its organic silhouette. Their softly irregular forms balance delicacy with strength, reflecting Ikai’s distinctive approach to traditional Japanese ceramics.

Ash glazing is an ancient Japanese ceramic technique that incorporates plant ash to create rich, nuanced surfaces. Drawing on this tradition, Ikai brings a contemporary sensibility to his work, allowing the interplay of clay, glaze, and fire to shape each piece’s individual character.

Designed for the quiet ritual of enjoying sake, the set is equally compelling as a pair of sculptural objects. Rooted in Kyoto’s rich ceramic heritage, these vessels embody a timeless appreciation for craftsmanship, natural materials, and the beauty of everyday use.

Dimensions:

Katakuchi: W 4" x L 3.25" x H 3.75"

Guinomi: W. 2.25" x L 2.5" x H 1.75"

Hand-crafted in Kyoto, Japan.
