Jingkwang Onggi

Discover the legacy of Jingkwang Onggi (징광옹기) — traditional Korean earthenware Onggi handcrafted in the village of Jingkwang, Boseong County in South Korea, where the fading breath of Korea’s onggi tradition was revived in 1980.

Each vessel is formed from coarse local clay and glazed with natural ash and wood-fired at 1230°C, creating warm, earthy tones and a breathing surface ideal for fermentation. The broad-shouldered, full-bodied southern form reflects both strength and grace — shaped entirely by hand, each piece carrying the quiet rhythm of the potter’s touch.

Honored with the Prime Minister’s Award at the 1986 Traditional Craft Exhibition and selected by UNESCO in 2006 as one of the “Beautiful Handicrafts of the World.”

Rooted in centuries of Korean craft, Jingkwang Onggi embodies patience, function, and beauty — a quiet dialogue between soil, fire, and air.
