Korean Buncheong Ceramic Matcha Bowl

Regular price $58.00 USD

Meet the Korean Buncheong Ceramic Matcha Bowl, wheel-thrown by Studio Pan, a ceramic studio based in Icheon, South Korea, devoted to the art of black clay ceramics (Heukja).

Rooted in Korea’s thousand-year ceramic tradition, the studio explores the quiet depth and luminous darkness unique to this ancient material.

Each piece begins with carefully refined clay and is shaped by hand, then fired at high temperatures to reveal a deep, metallic sheen — a surface that captures both shadow and light.

Through the dialogue between clay and fire, the studio continues the legacy of Icheon’s craft while bringing a modern sensibility to timeless tradition.

Ideal as a matcha bowl, rice or a dessert bowl

Rough black clay makes a beautiful natural texture, and adding characteristics to that, the upper vessel is dipped in the white-clay slip, a technique called Dumbung buncheong (덤벙분청). This is a unique form of pottery to Korea. The bowl is glazed in transparent glaze.
