Japanese Ceramic Mamezara Plate Set
A pair of small Japanese mamezara plates by Studio Rokuro, each expressive in its own way through contrasting surface treatments and understated handwork.
One features a warm, earthy brown clay body decorated with fine white lines radiating outward from the center. The loose, hand-drawn pattern gives the plate a quiet sense of movement, while the exposed clay surface preserves the natural texture and character of the material.
The second is finished in a soft, gray-toned glaze with scattered iron-rich markings and subtle variations across the surface. Its painterly, almost weathered appearance is complemented by an irregular rim and gently shallow form, creating a piece that feels both rustic and refined.
Small in scale but full of individual character, these mamezara are well suited for condiments, sweets, small bites, or simply as intimate objects for the table. As with handmade ceramics, slight variations in shape, glaze, and markings are part of each piece’s unique character.
