Japanese Crawling Glaze Ido Chawan
Meet the Japanese Ido Chawan, wheel thrown by Kenichi Miyata. The surface features a distinctive glaze crawling texture --- where the feldspathic glaze naturally retracts during firing, revealing the raw clay beneath. Subtle iron specks and mineral freckles animate the surface, while the foot shows traces of natural ash melt.
Dimensions: Ø 5" x H 2.5"
Based in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, Kenichi Miyata creates hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics that embrace the quiet depth of traditional Japanese firing techniques. Working primarily with yakishime (high-fired unglazed stoneware) and subtle ash glazes, Miyata;'s pieces reveal the dialogue between clay, flame and time. A member of the Japan Kogei Association, Miyata has exhibited widely in the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition, receiving regional awards for his unglazed and Oribe works.
Handcrafted in Japan.
