Japanese Shigaraki Gohonte Glaze Ceramic Bowl, Burnt Orange
Meet our Japanese Shigaraki Gohonte Ceramic Tea Bowl in Burnt Orange, wheel-thrown by a craftsman in Shiga Prefecture in Japan. Located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, Shigaraki is one of Japan's six old kilns, with the history that goes back 1260 years. In 1976, Shigaraki-yaki (Shigaraki ware) was designated as a traditional craft in Japan.
The beautiful cloud effect called Gohonte (御本手) makes this bowl a statement piece. Gohonte is a pattern of random, irregular, and highly valued peach or pink spots on the surface of Japanese pottery, particularly Hagi-yaki and Mino-yaki ware. This effect is achieved during high-temperature firing when the iron content in the clay or glaze reacts with the kiln's flame and oxygen, drawing out random pink or orangish hues and creating a unique, natural beauty that tea masters and collectors appreciate.
Pairs well with the matching pitcher found here.
Kindly note, due to the use of coarse clay on Shigaraki ware pieces, there maybe hairline crazing that is intrinsic to each piece, and they are not deemed defective by the maker.
