Japanese Shigaraki Ceramic Mug in Earthy Black

Regular price $50.00 USD

Meet the Japanese Shigaraki Ceramic Mug in Earthy Black, handcrafted by a craftsman in Shiga Prefecture in Japan. Located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, Shigaraki is one of Japan's six old kilns, with a history that goes back 1260 years. In 1976, Shigaraki-yaki (Shigaraki ware) was designated as a traditional craft in Japan.

Formed from coarse, iron-rich clay, the mug carries a naturally textured surface with small feldspar inclusions that emerge through firing. The exterior reveals a deep, earthy black with subtle speckling, while the interior is finished with a soft, pale glaze—offering a gentle contrast in both tone and touch.

Slight variations in form, along with the quiet movement of the clay, reflect the spontaneity inherent to Shigaraki ware. The subtly contoured body and comfortably sized handle offer a balanced grip, making it well suited for everyday use.

Ideal for coffee, tea, or small pours, the mug brings a calm, grounded presence to daily rituals.
