Japanese Shigaraki Gohonte Glaze Ceramic Mug & Saucer Set
Meet our Japanese Shigaraki Gohonte Ceramic Mug & Saucer Set in Burnt Orange, handcrafted by a craftman in Shiga Prefecture in Japan. Located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, Shigaraki is one of Japan's six old kilns, with a history that goes back 1260 years. In 1976, Shigaraki-yaki (Shigaraki ware) was designated as a traditional craft in Japan.
The beautiful cloud effect called Gohonte (御本手) makes this mug and saucer set a statement piece. The saucer can be used as a mini plate. Each set comes beautifully packaged in a paper box, thus perfect for gifting.
Gohonte is a pattern of random, irregular, and highly valued peach or pink spots on the surface of Japanese pottery, particularly Hagi-yaki and Mino-yaki ware. This effect is achieved during high-temperature firing when the iron content in the clay or glaze reacts with the kiln's flame and oxygen, drawing out random pink or orangish hues and creating a unique, natural beauty that tea masters and collectors appreciate.
