Baekja means white ware or porcelain in Korean and may be broadly defined as high-fired, vitrified, and translucent white ceramic. In the early Joseon period, the elite had a penchant for plain white ware baekja because it was associated with the minimalistic purist aesthetics of the Neo Confucianism ideology.

You may notice a few black speckles that are a natural result of iron in the clay, which adds a character to the tea pot.

Made of porcelain, the plates have a faint bluish tint, particularly when viewed in certain lighting conditions. This is a result of the glaze composition, which contains trace amounts of iron that impart a subtle blue color when fired.
