Korean Buncheong Ceramic Silver-Footed Cup Set
Meet our Korean Buncheong Ceramic Silver-Footed Masangbae Cup Set, wheel thrown and handmade in Korea by ceramist Seungki Min. The cups were fired in a kiln after being brushed with white clay, which is one of the decorative feature of Buncheong ware unique to Korea, and then glazed with transparent glaze and fired in the kiln for the second time. Then, the stems were coated with silver and fired for the third time.
Masangbae (마상배; 馬上杯) is a traditional Korean cup with a tall, pedestal-like base, originally designed for use on horseback. The elevated foot allowed the drinker to hold the cup securely while riding, reflecting both practicality and elegance in form. Today, it is appreciated for its distinctive silhouette and historical reference. These cups are perfect for serving sake, soju or tea.
By nature, silver does oxidize and leaves patina which can be easily cleaned with baking soda.
