Hunseong Jang

Korean Buncheong Ceramic Tea Cup

Regular price $70.00 USD

This handcrafted Buncheong Tea Cup by Korean ceramic artist Hunseong Jang is characterized by a quiet, understated form and a softly layered white surface.

The bowl is finished with a warm ivory-white slip that allows subtle traces of the clay beneath to remain visible. Fine iron speckles, delicate crazing, and gentle variations in tone spread naturally across the surface, giving the seemingly simple white bowl considerable depth and texture.

Its softly flared sides rise from a small foot to a gently irregular rim, retaining the subtle asymmetry and movement of the handmade process. Along the rim and foot, warmer earthy tones emerge through the pale surface, creating a restrained contrast with the creamy interior.

Jang is based in Icheon, South Korea, where he established his studio in 2006. His practice is particularly associated with Buncheong ware, exploring the expressive possibilities of white slip, clay, and firing while maintaining forms intended for everyday use.
