Hunseong Jang

Korean Buncheong Ceramic Lidded Box with Chrysanthemum Motif

Regular price $400.00 USD

Meet the Korean Buncheong Chrysanthemum Lidded Box, handcrafted by Hunseong Jang in Icheon, Korea.

Located southeast of Seoul, Icheon is one of Korea’s most celebrated ceramic centers. With a rich pottery heritage spanning centuries, the city is home to generations of master potters and contemporary ceramic artists who continue to shape the future of Korean ceramics.

This buncheong lidded box features embossed chrysanthemum motifs on the front and back, paired with finely incised geometric patterns. It is created using the dumbeong (덤벙) buncheong technique, in which white slip is generously applied to the surface before glazing, resulting in the soft, expressive finish characteristic of traditional Korean buncheong ware.

The chrysanthemum, a traditional symbol of longevity and elegance, is paired with rhythmic carved details that wrap around the vessel, lending depth and quiet movement to its form. Slight variations in the glaze, brushwork, and exposed clay reflect the artist’s hand, making each piece one of a kind.

Designed for both beauty and function, this versatile box is ideal for storing loose-leaf tea, incense, jewelry, or other treasured objects, bringing a sense of craftsmanship and quiet elegance to the home.
