Korean Buncheong Hori Gourd Bottle

Regular price $140.00 USD

Meet the Korean Buncheong Hori Gourd Bottle, wheel-thrown by ceramist Seungki Min based in Icheon, South Korea.

Dumbeong Buncheong (덤벙 분청) refers to a traditional Korean Buncheong ceramic technique in which a vessel is “dipped” or fully immersed in white slip before glazing and firing. The word dumbeong loosely conveys the act of plunging or coating all at once, resulting in a spontaneous, fluid surface that embraces irregularity and gesture.

Unlike more highly refined porcelain traditions, Dumbeong Buncheong celebrates materiality and process. The white slip settles unevenly across the clay body, allowing drips, pooling, brush traces, and tonal variation to emerge naturally through firing. These subtle imperfections are central to the character of the work, embodying the quiet informality and tactile warmth associated with Buncheong ware.

Handcrafted with a rounded double-gourd silhouette, this ceramic vessel offers a quiet sculptural presence while remaining functional for sake drinking, single stems, or floral arrangements. Its soft contours and subtle glaze variation bring warmth and balance to shelves, tables, and intimate gatherings.
