Korean Ceramic Hoeryeong Glaze Sabal Tea Bowl

Regular price $150.00 USD

Meet our Korean Ceramic Hoeryeong Glaze Sabal Bowl, wheel-thrown by ceramist Byung Yeoul Kim in Korea and fired in a traditional method of wood-fired kiln. The bowl is perfect for matcha tea ceremony.

The hoeryeong glaze – a glazing style which finds it origins during the Joseon Dynasty of Korea (1392-1897) -- adds uniqueness to the bowl.

"Hoeryeong-yu glaze uses ash that can only be obtained after burning rice straw and pine trees without the use of mechanical and chemical processes. The combination of the basic color of the carefully selected clay and this Hoeryung-yu, results with each firing producing a unique piece in the wood-fired kiln. Yo-byeon translated as “unpredictable color” is the most attractive feature of Hoeryeong bowls, as various modifiers can be attached to each bowl completely distorting any expected outcome of the firing process."

There is potter's mark on the lower part near the foot of the bowl.
