Korean Wood-fired Hoeryeong Glaze Ceramic Sabal Tea Bowl

Regular price $145.00 USD

Meet our Korean Ceramic Sabal Tea Bowl, wheel-thrown by ceramist Byung Yeoul Kim in Korea. The bowl was fired in a traditional wood kiln in Korea. It is perfect for carrying out a proper tea-drinking ritual. The hoeryeong glaze – a glazing style which finds it origins during the Joseon Dynasty of Korea (1392-1897) -- adds uniqueness to the bowl.

"Hoeryeong-yu glaze uses ash that can only be obtained after burning rice straw and pine trees without the use of mechanical and chemical processes. The combination of the basic color of the carefully selected clay and this Hoeryung-yu, results with each firing producing a unique piece in the wood-fired kiln.Yo-byeon translated as “unpredictable color” is the most attractive feature of Hoeryeong bowls, as various modifiers can be attached to each bowl completely distorting any expected outcome of the firing process."

There is potter's mark on the lower part near the foot of the bowl.

Due to the nature of the rough-textured clay used for these handmade pieces, there may be miniscule hollow spots that are intrinsic to each piece.
